He really needs to do shopping for his new house.

This time he doesn't try to be cute about it, perhaps as another little mercy. Or perhaps he just can't find a 4-foot-tall, 300 pound grandmother this time. As thoroughly disguised as possible, face hidden thanks to the combination of glasses, hat, and hoodie, he delivers the cake personally to the doorstep. Little things aren't lighting up how they should but between his memory of how things ought to look and Stark's skills, they've just about got the first batch done. Just in time for Christmas.

He doesn't quite hear Malcolm at first, elbow deep in a holographic display of an arm and sending the recording of a range of motion to Stark over the glasses. It's only when he shakes it off and ends the call a few seconds later he registers Malcolm at all.

"Oh- hey!" Contrary to how their last conversation went, York meets Malcolm with a grin, albiet a mildly strained one. Shit is- well. Shit is fucked but things are getting handled. "What's up?"

This isn't how he'd hoped the day would go. And that he'd managed to fuck everything up quite spectacularly within a day of warning North that he'd pretty much do just that? Not a good sign for what he's setting himself and all of them up to be.

Maybe he shouldn't have been trying so damn hard. Maybe living like civilians would suit them all better. He can't run shit if he snaps like this. There's a memory- several in fact- that linger vividly in the back of his mind of the Director losing his temper and slamming his hands on tables, snapping- he remembers shouting when he'd gotten his eye mangled. When Carolina was going to spar with Tex and anything at all that would tie him to that man is something he needs to get rid of.

He's quiet on the walk home, strips down and settles on the couch, one hand scrubbing at his bionic eye. Fuck. He'd fucked up.

The walk home had been quiet and North decided that was for the best. Let the consequences of his actions stew in York's mind for a while so he can really realize what it is he's done today. When they enter the place he does as York does and removes the armor plating, setting the pieces aside neatly, stacked in the corner of the room.

Once he'd taken his time to do that he approaches the armchair and sits in it. He doesn't even know where to start with this—York's a grown man and should not have behaved the way he did today. Not only that but he's the man who's been waxing on about how they needed to be on an even keel, need to be open and transparent and make decisions together.

He lets several beats go by before speaking. "York, I think we need to think about how this leadership role affects you."

He walks in the front door and scans until he spots his friend at the bar, then makes his way over. "Getting a head start?"
