Shots? Shots. York does one and flips the glass over, setting it on the bar. Time to start a tower. "It's real discreet, got a good program to it. Most of the guys I work with for weapons test their shit there."

"My concern is any place people like that gather is bound to be under extra scrutiny." It wouldn't do to get complacent about not being caught; it was possible that the powers that be were waiting for some opportune time or piece of evidence to snag as many dissenters as possible.

"That's fair. As soon as I find a place Clair and Mal want to throw in and get us our own secure location for training and testing and whatnot. Still haven't found anywhere big enough just yet." Or affordable enough. He could just squat in one but there are people that need to be paid to ignore him.

He stops talking. Is that the bartender giving them a long glance? Surely not. York would have taken him to a place he'd vetted long in the past. Still, they're getting pretty loose with their talk. He waits until the bartender turns and gives a little head shake. Changing the subject should make it pretty clear he wants to drop that line of conversation. "How are things, by the way? Since everything shook down?" He knew York had been making a lot of calls but he didn't really have the full picture of how York was doing now. With so many housemates they didn't always get the chance to talk one-on-one.

Ex marine families and discretion, pretty awesome. Being so open about shit? Not quite so much. He downs another shot and rubs at his bionic eye, scratching at the old scars. "Things are alright. Talked shit out with Tex. Talked it out with Carolina, checked up on South. Delta's still muddled on what to do but..."

That's sort of the norm. "We're alright. How's Theta holding up?"

"He's good. He's resilient, despite the circumstance sometimes."

"Whole lotta rough right around the time he showed up. It should get easier. I mean. The Director's here. There's not a whole lot else that can pop up and surprise us." One day. One. Fucking. Day. He will learn to keep his mouth shut.

Today is not that day.

"Don't underestimate them." That's all he's going to say. He takes another shot and motions for a couple more to be brought over.

"What, they're gonna bring in Omega and Sigma next?" Oh god mouth stop. Stop now. Booze will make it stop he takes another shot and sags against the bar. "God. Knowing our luck they would. That'd be fucking terrible."

He gives a sideways glance at York, eyes slightly narrowed. "Bite your tongue."

"I need to stop talking." He scrubs at his face and taps the bar. More shots. That'll shut him up.

"Only a certain percentage of the time." North chuckles and takes the next shot. Things are starting to feel pleasantly warm and swimmy.

"Most of the time." All of the time. Maybe if he spoke less people would LISTEN when he said shit.

Maybe that's a little maudlin. Skip the Maudlin, get to the fun shit. One more shot and he's got a pyramid of glasses, yaaaaaay.

North grins. "You said it, not me."

"Cuz you're too nice to say it." He nudges North a little with one elbow, light and easy. "So damn patient. I never know how you put up with me."

"Sometimes? A lot of self-control." They've had their arguments too, though, and York knows that.

"You've got more than me, that's for sure." Most of the arguments happen when York crosses a line or does dumb shit. So. The usual.

And there North had been at the beginning, thinking York would be able to handle being a leader of something big. Even with North's input that obviously was never fated to be. North orders another drink and swallows it back a little slower than the previous ones. "That's nice," he muses, turning the glass between his thumb and forefinger.

"The only thing that doesn't suck about this place. The booze." He doesn't know how they make it and honestly? He's fine with the mystery. It's delicious and doesn't always burn on the way down. That's all he really needs.

"Isn't that sad?" He sighs and pushes back the shot glasses. "I'm done for now."

"Well there's also meeting new people. Not being dead." The small things. He finishes his shot, tops off his pyramid, and props is chin on his hand, face tilted to North. "S'a good idea."

"Yeah." He sighs and orders a glass of water. Just to be responsible and all that.

York, being less responsible and having less shame, does no such thing. In fact he's got so little shame that he lets himself slump more into North's space, tipping until he's pretty much leaning on the taller man.

You know, normal for an average night drinking out. If anything the fact he hasn't been leaning on North before this is abnormal.

He has no idea why but that's getting all over North's nerves tonight. He's been dealing with the fact that their legs are locked together but this is getting to be a little much.

"Sit up, York," he says firmly.

"Mm?" Sit up? Sit up. Okay. He pushes himself back upright, elbow knocking against Norths' ribs on accident with a mumbled 'my bad' as he leans back against the bar instead. There.

He's up!
