[backdaaaaaated] DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voicemail message;
I'm borrowing a couple of your shirts. [pause] Though this one looks more like one of Reed's.
Also owe you a handgun.
[ Not that taking one depleted your stash by much. Regretting giving her a copy of your house key yet? ]

DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
Actually, I'm paying forward some help to some new arrivals. Two rather lost looking gents who seem to know each other. [...seem to. But something's off, and she's curious]
I'll pay you back. [once she's. you know. got a job. that doesn't include being a hit(wo)man.]
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
[ Then again he's kind of been operating on radio silence for awhile. Might be why he hadn't noticed. ]
Don't worry. A handgun's a handgun and shirts are for the weak and those that lack conviction.
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
Don't worry, we can take turns.
[ she'd noticed. not enough to worry, since no doubt his time had been wrapped up in Delta. but she'd noticed. ]
Given the selection in your wardrobe, you'd certainly know. [ooooooh] I'll make sure to refer them to you for any larger orders, though.
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
[ Fine he's NOT gonna get her that super nice suit now.
Who's he kidding, he totally is. He can't not. God he's whipped. Without ever being in a position to get anything. That is the worst sort of whipped. ]
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
[ That's hardly fair, when she's entirely unaware of what he has planned, what he's having made for her.
He's always done things, little things, little gestures. Before. When she was never truly in a position to appreciate that. But things are, could be, different now.. ]
Old Earth French, too. Weird to think people from the past can end up in this situation too. [all hail the 26th century]
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
[ Maybe a lot. But they're supposed to be taking it easy on each other. Playing nice. Maybe she didn't get the memo? Who's he kidding she's never taken it easy on him. If she did he wouldn't like her so much. ]
Who the hell knows what they're after.
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
[ She is playing nice - she's treating you as she'd always done, before the Leaderboard and the weight of the project crushed them all. Maybe York's the one who should watch those mixed signals.]
Beginning to think their process is more like russian roulette than careful review and selection. [slight sour note; then again, they both had more than enough experience at being lab rats, willingly or otherwise]

[ And she is, really. Handling everything better than he has been, he has to give her that much. ]
...we're still friends, right?
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
[ And then a question that takes the wind from her sails, she's just not expecting it. He can't see how her expression fades, how she steels herself before answering. ]
..Yeah. [why would you think--] Of course we are.
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
[ a beat. ]
Good. I- good. I just worry that I've fucked this up. I fuck a lot of stuff up and you're- you were always my closest friend during the project. Shit's different here and I know I haven't been as open as I used to- I'm just trying to get my head on straight but- come over for dinner, I guess? I got some shit to talk to you about. That...stuff I didn't want to bother you with before.
That.
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
No more than I have. [truly self-depreciating now] I know that I, haven't. Exactly been. Very good at this. At being friends. At being there when people needed me. But I am-- I want to be. So if you want to talk, then, we'll talk.
[ Dinner? She can do dinner. ]
When were you thinking?
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
[ Understatement of the century there. ]
Um...gimme about five days? To clean up the house. You've been here but it's kind of a mess and I think it's starting to offend D- it'll also give us time to actually work on something we can cook instead of making Mal do everything.
DAY 103 (Afternoon) - Voice;
[ Still.
She waits for that old flicker, that familiar flare of anger, that had once accompanied the thought of the Director. It doesn't come. Even as she's relieved that all there is left of that old emotion is ashes, she can't help but - feel a little wary. A little worried. She'd never talked to him about her parents.
Not that he's entirely wrong about one of them. ]
Sounds like a plan. Worst case scenario, I'm sure we can order in some takeout to make up for any kitchen disasters. I'll see you then.
