[Joy of joy's, he'd tossed his damn glasses onto the other side of the room last night when he'd almost drunk dialed Evan, and here he is. Damn.

He grumbles under his breath and hauls them on, flopping back on his borrowed sofa.]

What the fuck do you want, Rask?

[Reianna is still new here. Things like mysterious broadcasts from an anonymous XXX-person-whatever are enough to make her skin crawl probably more than if she'd seen all of this before, and she's... worried. So what's a worried girl to do? Reach out to one of the only people around here that she trusts.]

Hey... York?

[Wow, she even sounds unnerved. She clears her throat, tries (and fails) to collect herself.]

Sorry for the random and completely unexpected call but I was just wondering if-... Um, what's going on? What was that?

[Please don't make her point out what "that" is. But she will if she has to.]

[You want a little break from the monotony? Have some snorting on the line.

York's out cold for a little while. At least until there's a rustle, a grunt, and a soft thud of a body hitting the ground.]

Damn sofa- [All the bitching as he grabs his glass and blinks at it.] Um. Hey Rei-Rei. What's up?

[ She wasn't expecting him to be sleeping. She does crack a small smile at the sound of him snoring, but then winces in sympathy when she hears him hit the ground. ]

I'm sorry! I didn't think I'd wake you up, I just-... Well, have you seen it yet? That post to the network, the really creepy one? It even has Jim's name on it...

[ worry worry worry... ]

Don't be. Best part of waking up is a pretty lady calling you.

[He cracks a laugh as he stretches, yawns, and blinks into the glass. There'd been a broadcast? What the hell.]

One second-

[He flips back through the feed and oh. Oh god. Voice becomes video and the gravest face ever pings across to Rei Rei.]

Jim's safe- I'm at his house right now. You need to stay inside until I come get you, okay? Keep a weapon handy and don't get too close to any of the windows. And if anyone knocks without say'n who they are first- or any of those boxes show up? Do not open them.

[She turns her video on as well, the glasses turned to show her sitting up straight, serious business and shifting into survival mentality just because of the tone of his voice and the things he's asking of her. She's nodding.]

Understood. Are you sure you don't want me to come to you instead?

I –

[ of course he's expecting this. even the use of his last name – not even his codename – makes him wince, but he has to do this. ]

I had to … I had to check on you.

Don't worry about me. Long story short? Kind of in the military for a bit. Special ops. Best male operative they had and yes before you ask the only two better than me were women.

Really kickass women.

[So don't go assuming he's keeping you in place because he doesn't think you can kick ass. He's just used to running support ops.]

I'm used to avoiding detection.

What the fuck for? Trying to make sure I remembered to maintain my equipment because everyone knows York'll fuck it up without you there to hold my hand?

[Oh, she knows that the amount of ass she can kick here has been severely limited by the removal of her Techs. So if he says he's okay coming to get her, then fine, she'll roll with it. Especially if he's got stealth on his side - that's something she's never had anyway.]

Anytime Rei-Rei. I got you, you got me. We can stay in and have drinks when I bring you back. See if you can't put Jim under the table again and teach me that hip move dance you did last time. That's gorgeous and you have my envy for being able to pull it off.

[There's rustling and movement- he's putting on the armor. No upgrades and only a decent hunk of power but he's been able to jury rig the grid in his apartment to charge it. The house has been working pretty well. Suiting up is familiar. It's comfortable.

For a moment he misses D like a limb. Like his eye. It passes and he's on.]

We'll be laughing about this later, you'll see.

[She's smiling a little. She's still worried about this whole thing - who wouldn't be? But she does feel a bit better since she's going to be with friends.]

[Joking to take the edge off? You bet.]

[ he pauses, takes in another breath. ]

[His voice and smile are so very warm and so very casual. Hey. it's not the end of the world. They got this. It's going to be okay. Everything is going to be okay.]

Oh, and because something is happening I'm gonna need your backup?

[Yeah, he's seen now. He's suiting up even, the sounds well worn and familiar.]

[He's patched the call through to his radio so he can walk and talk to pick up Rei-rei at the same time. he's got this. It's nothing new. He's fine.]

You think this is something I haven't been through before? You think didn't spend years with a scope on me because of Delta, that I didn't have someone out for my head because of how everything ended with project freelancer? This is cake, buddy. This is someone being honest which is a hellovalot more refreshing than having someone smile to your face and put a hit out on you while they shake your hand.
