Oh, what was that he was saying about moderation? It doesn't seem to matter because now with his irritation with York he decides to order a rum and coke. Yeah. That should help soothe his crabbiness. He takes a drink of his water before starting in on it.

What happened to being done? It's not straight shots so it must be alright- so. Rum and coke for North, York taps the bar for a bit of his favorite. LIquid sunshine. That'll save the night.

"What's that?" he asks after hearing the name of the drink York orders. The tone is sort of begrudging, as though he had to decide whether satisfying his curiosity was worth speaking.

Grumpy North is in full force already. Damn. usually he has to fuck up hardcore to get that. He shrugs and tips, tipping his head back to blow a citrusy smoke ring. "Liquid sunshine. I don't know what's in it or how they make it but it tastes a little like honey, a lot like citrus, and a whole lot like love. It fizzes and smokes, see? Like a hookah."

"Yeah, I see." He sips thoughtfully at his drink and once it's through he orders a liquid sunshine for himself.

And he's starting to outpace what that glass of water can do to help him avoid becoming entirely inebriated. He frowns over at York. "We just walking home when we're done?"

"Didn't have plans to hit any other bars tonight." Well. He might have if this bar had gone well, but it hasn't, and he sure as hell ain't driving. Walking home is the plan. He finishes the last of his liquid sunshine with a smile and tips his head back to blow one last set of rings, shooting the smaller one through the larger. "Ha! Still got it."

"You?" He scoffs out a laugh and takes another drink. He's only able to blow out a stream of smoke but he does it like he's just as proud of it as York with his smoke rings. He's a bit surprised that they're not going anywhere else but that's for the best. Maybe York is getting a little older, mentally. Maturing.

"Yeah, me. It's all in the tongue." He sticks his out at North. A little more mature, maybe. It's less a question of wanting to and more a question of the company. On his own devices? He'd knock around another two or three. With North? With GRUMPY CAT North? Not near as appealing as home and a bottle of something and a soft bed. "I'll get this tonight. Kay?"

He bugged North, may as well cover the tab.

He doesn't really know what's gotten into him, and isn't in a place of self-introspection enough to care. He just wishes they'd avoided the heavy topics to begin with. Everything would be better if they'd done that. "Yeah, go for it." He finishes off his water and stands. "Just have to visit the restroom and we can head out."

"Sure thing. See you out front in five." He smirks and just to be an ass adds: "Sync?"

Because old habits die hard and using that methodology for going to take a piss is hilarious to him right now.

"I left my stopwatch at home," he says dryly. Can't they get away from the whole mission-mindset for one night? Really.

"Kidding, North. Kidding. Go do your thing." He'll do his. Pay up and weave his way out front, collecting kisses from tipsy women (and men) on the way. It's New Year's eve, why not? There's still some lipstick on him whenever North makes it back, York leaning against the wall and puffing rings into the air.

He sees York lounging there and comes to his side. "You look happy."

"People are affectionate on New Year's Eve. Kiss me at midnight, all that jazz. Nowhere near midnight but." He shrugs, pushing away from the wall.

"Your kind of night, that's for sure." North shoved his hands in his pockets and turned in the direction of home.

"People like me, I can't help it." They also find him sexy which is something else in his favor more often than not. He follows along with only a little stumbling over a patch of ice (wow really still) but catches up easy.

"Enough." He's teasing, but it did come out pretty dry.

A thought occurs so, hey, no filter, talk about it. "I think I got a peg on where he might be. The Director. I'm gonna call Clair once I'm sure so she can run how it goes but I've got the schematics to that building. Even if there are places that don't exist that I can't work around."

He frowns at his friend. Really, he's going to bring this kind of shit up again? "You're obsessed," he says, a vertical line forming between his brows. "What happens if Clair doesn't want to go after him, you going to storm the place on your own?"

"What?" Obsessed? Being worried about a potential threat is not obsessing. Not after what happened back home. "No. She's the boss, it's her call. Even if we're not gonna take him out we should still keep an eye on him."

The fuck is going on.

"Or do you want him to do the whole damn thing all over again?"

He shakes his head. "Hell, no. I just don't want you fucking things up like you did with Tex."

"You think I'd fuck up an op that's this fucking important?" Because it is A) an op and B) really fucking important. To keeping everyone safe from the bullshit they went through before. "You think I wouldn't take every fucking precaution possible to make sure nothing went wrong this time around?"

"I wouldn't be surprised at this point." He's got his arms crossed now, staring straight ahead.

"What the fuck." No, seriously, what. The. Fuck. "Where's this coming from, man? You know I'd do anything to make sure that didn't happen."

Somewhere in the back of his mind this rings familiar. Done this before, had an argument before, but the thought is there and gone because that- that hurts. That North thinks so fucking little of him.

"I know you'd mean to." What's that they say about alcohol being a truth serum? He doesn't even know he's been thinking these things but here they are tumbling out of his mouth. "You've just been pretty goddamn careless from what I've seen."
