[A second text comes in a minute later, an afterthought and maybe carries some hope for peace:]

...I'm gonna meet you there, you have to know that. It's fucked up, having to do what you did. It's never easy.

[ still he sends along the coordinates, heading that way on his own to meet her. ]

doesn't matter. you hated him anyway and he's gone now.

[She's not looking forward to seeing him. Not one bit. Her eyes are still red and puffy from the damn crying she did earlier and it's not a way she wants anyone to see her.

She's tempted to wait an hour. Surely he can't stay there for long, right? But she's tired. She has a duffel bag slung over her shoulder from when she packed up earlier and on foot, but she's heading towards his coordinates.]

You didn't. That's gonna have to be enough.

[ He opens the door for her when she gets there, cold wipes for the swelling in her eyes in one hand and a mug of whiskey laced hot cocoa in the other. It's not perfect, but it's something. ]

[She only looks him in the eyes for a second before averting her gaze and brushing past him to get inside. Taking the wipes makes the tears all-too-real and she's not accepting the mug just yet.]

You don't need to be here.

It's why I'm not staying long. I just wanted to see how you were.

[ He follows her in and sets down the wipes and the mugs before taking his coat from the hook near the door. Really, this was just to check in on her, make sure she wasn't a complete ruin. ]

You need anything, call. This place is stocked up for two weeks.

[She shakes her head and sets her bag on the floor. She's not saying it, but she does appreciate the check-in. Not many people bother.]

I won't be here long. Just need some time to clear my head.

I'm just saying it's good for however long you need it, okay?

[She shrugs.]

Thanks. I'll try not to wreck it.

Rest up. It- doesn't get easier. Sorry.

[Loss is part of the job. She finally glances up at York before letting out a small sigh and reaching for a mug.]

I meant it. [Except that doesn't make sense. Quick, clarify:] The thank you. I don't say it often enough.

Yeah, well, don't worry about it. You got a lot on your plate. Take as much time as you need, okay? I'll keep an eye on them for you.

And I promise I won't even try to shave his goatee in his sleep. Which is really hard, you should appreciate my restraint.

[That earns him a roll of the eyes and she fixes him a look that makes it clear he better not dare. Even if she things that would be hilarious.]

I'm not taking an extended vacation. Only a small break before I get back to the grind. All you need to do is make sure they don't do anything stupid.

[She nods and there's a small pause before she asks this next question:]

Do you know if Church is back at the house? I haven't talked to him since he ran off after I brought Omega home.

Now? I think he's still at a hotel or something. He needed somewhere to stay.

[She shakes her head. Figures.]

Thought as much.

He had a right to want to be somewhere safe. Just like you've got a right to that now.

[Great, now she gets to hear it from this angle, too.]

Don't want to hear it, York. I wouldn't have let Omega do anything to him. If he tried to lay a finger on Church, I would have put a bullet in him right then.

You know the thing about fear is that it's irrational, right? Things get to people in ways that keep them from thinking straight, it's a gut reaction.

That's what his fear was. Irrational.

Doesn't change how much bullshit it was that he ran off. [She sighs and her fingers trace over the rim of the mug.]

You know I called someone else in to stay over as back-up. Even after meeting Omega and being threatened, he didn't run the fuck off.

He wasn't personally traumatized by a fragment of himself. So. Fucked up as your relationship with him was you don't get to turn around and call Church a coward for doing what was best for his mental health.

If our relationship is fucked up, it's only because this place is full of bullshit. How much do you even know about his mental health? First thing you did when you saw him was punch him in the face and I didn't even know you two were on speaking terms until just a few minutes ago.

I'm guessing he's a good judge of what he can and can't handle, is all. And we're on texting terms.
