"Hey, sine of us can't taste." Which he misses- wants? He can't mix anything he's never had a mouth.

Weird.

"Look, go grab some protein, we'll be hitting the gym later."

"Man, that sucks," Wash says, grimacing. He likes taste. He loves the candy he gets 479er to smuggle in when she goes on supply runs. Especially the ones sour enough to make his lips numb.

"We hit the gym every day," he says, but does as York suggests.

"Trash, but this time? You got me. Come on, a few reps, some range time, a spar or two with Connie and well be good." They are gonna show off.

"Fine," Wash says, rolling his eyes. Can the AI feel that? Probably. At least he'll probably feel the sentiment behind it. "Was planning to go down anyway."

[goddamngrenades]

"Don't do that, it's not cute." York mutters. "Then we have our exhibition for whatever the Director wants us to do."

"Lies. I am super cute," Wash says, grinning at the sour tone of York's voice. Maine snorted into his coffee. "Yeah. He'll probably have something he expects me to fail."

"Well your face is symmetrical and you have the big eye thing going for you so, I guess?" He's an AI, he's got a rough understanding at best of what makes a person 'cute'.

"I... I will take that as a compliment." He has never really thought about the rules of what makes someone attractive. He's never really considered that he has big eyes either so...

[goddamngrenades]

"You should. Come on, Wash, protein. Peanut butter bars or something." They're gonna be swolemates, they gotta do this right.

He grumbles at that. Really, is York gonna be like his mother? But stands up and goes back to the food bar to grab some protein. They have eggs, or something that looks like eggs, and slices of meat, and he grabs a couple of protein bars for good measure.

"Reconstituted eggs. Real but from a powder, should get you all the same nutrients and benefits of real eggs with half the storage space and weight of actual ones." A beat. "They probably have a weird texture, huh?"

"Like rubber," Wash says, grimacing. "They're way too chewy to be real eggs and I've never been sure how you turn eggs into a powder anyway."

[goddamngrenades]

"Dehydration. Same as the terrible coffee and the powdered milk." Probably explains the texture too, honestly.

[notyourrookie]

"It's still gross and unnatural," he protests. Eggs should not be dehydrated. Whoever had created them was a sadist.

[goddamngrenades]

"I'll get right on changing that for you." The rough cant of York's helmet gives the impression of rolled eyes. "I know I'm awesome but I'm not that awesome. Some shit I can't change."

He fills his plate anyway and grins at the hologram. "Wow, delusions of grandeur there."

"Hey, wait till we get in the training sim." He is so damn awesome, Wash doesn't even know.

"Yeah just... just don't distract me, okay?" He'd seen the issues some of the others had had with their integrations.

[goddamngrenades]

"I'm here to help improve performance, not the opposite." Who sounds a little pouty? This guy. This guy sounds pouty.

[notyourrookie]

"Yeah, but some of the others have talked about having AIs." And how it could be confusing at first.

[goddamngrenades]

"Well other AI's ain't me. We're gonna be just fine Wash. Trust me. I got your back on this." They're gonna kick all kinds of ass and the Director will have to bump Wash up some.

"Alright," Wash agrees with a little nod. "We'll see how it goes."

[goddamngrenades]

When breakfast is done (The eggs do tasty funny) and their gym time is over (15% improvement across the board) the call does come for them to head down to the training floor and run through a few tests.

"You ready?"

[notyourrookie]

"Yeah. I think so," Wash says, although he feels sick with nerves. The Director unnerves him a lot. He always seems to be calculating, and the Counsellor just gives him the creeps.

"Here we go." He can't do much aside from ride along above Wash's shoulder as they head to the training floor, calculations running in the back of his head as to what kind of sim they'll be up against.
