"Tomorrow, I mean." He shrugs and turns enough to nuzzle into Malcolm's hair. "We're good."

"We'll have to sleep at some point, else go into it like zombies. Not the best first impression to make as a dynamic duo."

"Probably should eat something to. Tell you wat. You sign the waiver- s'on the tablet next to the bed, I'll get dinner."

[tactical_alert]

"Do you think I should talk to your doctor first, get the official medical opinion, or just say to hell with it because we're both apparently jumping into this cannonball style?"

[goddamngrenades]

"Canonball." He smirks. "Go big or go home."

[tactical_alert]

"Seems like this generation's motto. All right. I'll sign it, you get food. Lord, the students are going to be jealous when they find out..."

[goddamngrenades]

"Yeah. I'm the luckiest bastard in the Shatterdome." He squeezes Malcolm's shoulder and slips out of bed, loose and fluid and easy. He won't be gone long, just needs to slip into the mess and sneak what he needs with a wink and a smile.

No, at this point, he thinks he's the luckiest. It's...strange. A little disconcerting, even, to be so casual and relaxed around someone, but it's such a wonderful sensation to slip into. Does he really want to let that go? Even if it's...this side of terrifying? Malcolm calms down, chills out, just a little while York's gone, enough to feel a slight bit more normal, and he's okay with that.

So the mess isn't open and it's been awhile since he's last really broke and entered but- hey. How hard can it be? The locks aren't all that complicated and he does make note of what he grabs up for dinner- in Chuck's handwriting not his- and packs himself a little bag of chicken, veg, a can of soup, a can of coffee- pudding cups because why the hell not, and juice boxes. He ducks back in without getting caught and slips back into his room with his spoils in his bag. "So it's not much but it's dinner."

He stares at York for a moment, then peers into the bag of goodies, and back again, trying and failing to contain a smirk. "Really putting some of your skills to good use, I see."

[goddamngrenades]

"I signed it out." A beat. "With Chuck's handwriting." Because the kid could use a kick in the ass.

[tactical_alert]

"You're terrible. If you really wanted some good food, we could've gone out to see what's still open and serving at this hour." Not that he's complaining. Not really. Not when he nabbed some pudding cups.

[goddamngrenades]

"Nah. Stolen food tastes better." He smirks and hauls himself up onto the bed, unpacking the bag. "What's up next?"

[tactical_alert]

"Somehow I doubt that. But then, I was always a good kid who never broke into anywhere before." Yes, he's going to tease. Because York is easily teased. "I'll still eat it, of course. Because you so kindly obtained it to share."

[goddamngrenades]

"Hey!" He nudges Malcolm's ribs with his elbow. "It's an effective redistribution of resources not, you know. Illegal."

Well only it's illegal if he gets caught and he never has been.

[tactical_alert]

"Breaking and entering and stealing do tend to be illegal. At least where I'm from."

[goddamngrenades]

"Only if you get caught." He smirks. "Come on, enjoy the spoils."

[tactical_alert]

"Oh, I will." He will savour that pudding cup when he gets to dessert. "So long as none of it tastes like memories."

[goddamngrenades]

"No jeager blood included. I promise." Just soup and coffee and things to nibble on.

[tactical_alert]

"We're going to be a mess tomorrow. Like kids who stayed up too late while mum and dad weren't home."

[goddamngrenades]

"We'll be fine. Besides, you gotta go into the drift when you're outside your head exhausted sometimes. Kaiju don't care about sleep schedules when they hit the rift."

[tactical_alert]

"I'm aware." Although at the same time, it's not good to send an exhausted team out if another could take their place and still have good odds of taking out a kaiju. "Do you think that's how we should do it? Just be exhausted staying up all night having our little just-us party, so if it works, it'll only get easier from there?"

[goddamngrenades]

"We could pass out during the next movie but man, are you gonna get any sleep tonight? Cuz I'm not." NOt for lack of trying, he's too keyed up.

"...Could use another kick of coffee, but no, I suppose I'm not." He sports a light frown. "Did you and Carolina get off without a hitch?"

"God no." He snorts a soft laugh. "We fell hard into one of my childhood memories because she didn't really have a living or loving mother growing up. It was kinda bizarre playing piggyback to just- knocking around as a family, you know?"
