He just... just feels so stupid. For once he feels like the rookie, incompetent and a burden and he hates the feeling. He'd always assumed that if things had gone differently, York and Carolina would have been good together, and what right does he have to blunder into that, trying clumsily to find a place for himself. He lets York pull him into the circle of warmth and affection and he doesn't want to lose it, but if he has to it needs to be soon or it'll hurt worse.
Carolina watches for a moment and then settles next to them, wrapping her arms around the both of them. "You're enough, Wash," She says quietly. "We might not have the same as between either of us and York but I need you too. I'm not giving you up, Wash. I'm not leaving you alone. Either of you."
